What are collective agreements?

Collective agreements are legal documents that set out the minimum employment terms and conditions for a group of employees and their employer. They are usually negotiated by the employees’ union and the employer, and approved by the Fair Work Commission. There are different types of collective agreements, such as single-enterprise agreements, multi-enterprise agreements, and greenfields agreements. Collective agreements can cover various aspects of employment, such as pay rates, penalty rates, allowances, superannuation, hours of work, overtime, and dispute resolution1
